Parasolids Kernel Release 12.1

Parasolids kernel Version 12.1 is now provided with Synergy Solids.

New .SYN Extensions

Synergy now stores non-archived geometry files with a .syn extension.    This will allow you to open .syn files from Windows explorer, your desktop, or an E-Mail.    The .syn file type is automatically registered when the Synergy installer is run.    Users can also force the registration by typing \Xregister in the Synergy command window.

Thumbnail Preview

Synergy will now store source files with a .syn extension.    This allows the Windows Explorer to use Synergy to open files and provide preview images.    The preview image is taken from the screen when the file is saved (current view).    Any .syn file can be previewed using the thumbnail option on any View menu.    Some Window NT 4.0 platforms may not have the option to view thumbnails.

Explorer usage

You can use windows explorer to start Synergy.    By double clicking on the .syn file that you want, a new copy of Synergy will start and read in that file.    You can also drag and drop the .syn file name into a Synergy window.    This will not start a new copy of Synergy.    It will read in the file that you dropped.    If you hold down the Ctrl key while dragging, then that file will merge into the current job.

Older files

Older files can still be dragged and dropped into a Synergy window.    If you read in an old file and do a "Save as...", Synergy will add the .SYN extension to a new file.    This will leave you with two files in storage.    One with the .SYN and one without the .SYN.    Also, you can manually rename old files to include the .SYN.    Double clicking on these files from the explorer window will pop up the "Open with..." box.    You can choose to open a file using the Synergy option in this box.

Additional options

Solids files with .X_T extensions and Synergy Archives can be dragged and dropped onto a Synergy window.    These options are not started automatically by double clicking on them.    However, you can add Synergy to the pull down options through the Explorer Options.    Future versions may include options for .igs,.dxf and, .dwg.

Desktop usage

A convenient way to use the new .syn extensions is by placing a shortcut to your current job into your desktop.    Use any file-browsing window and go to your storage directory.    Now, use the copy option from the menu.    Move into the desktop and right click.    Choose Paste Shortcut.    WARNING: DO NOT PASTE THE FILE.    If you do not use the shortcut method, your file will reside in the desktop directory and not your storage directory.    You now have an icon that points to the current job you are working on.

E-Mail usage

E-Mail attachments that have a .syn extension can be opened by clicking on them.    Be careful if you want to save the file thru Synergy that you do a "Save as..."
